June… it’s Funny
The funny season of comedy festivals is over for another year – but Punchline keeps the gas going with a bucket load of new releases. After the unveiling of Comedy Central DVD’s – the love keeps coming with Season 2 of all your favourite characters from Reno 911!, Drawn Together and Mind of Mencia.
The deputies of Reno 911! Are back with a second season even more absurd thant the first, Whether they’re working security for Kenny Rodgers, fighting to save their mustaches, or hunting down an uppity Milkshake Man, the Reno Sheriff’s Department do their jobs with a glorious incompetence that is luckily caught on camera, week after humiliating week. Drawn Together is back for an amazing second season. Remember, this is the incredible true story of eight cartoons from all walks of life who have to deal with each other’s quirks, differences and insane necrophilia fantasies. From Clara, the racist fairy tale princess to Foxxy Love, the sassy, sexy musician; to Wooldoor Sockbat the… whatever he is, these housemates quickly learn the art of loving, punching and coming dangerously close to copyright infringement.
Margaret Cho gets both of them out this month with the releases of Revolution and Assassin. Her killer, raw, irreverent and hilarious one-woman shows feature Cho’s ground-breaking and controversial brand of humour. Known as much for her social activism as she is for her raunchy humour. Margaret is a one-of-a-kind phenomenon who once again brings her distinctive and empowering personal voice to her devoted and adoring fans. Another highlight this month is the The Footy Show Comedians Pack – with all your favourite comedians from Vol 1 & 2 now available. What better present for yourself after the State of Origin to lift you from your blues. On Touring news… The Punchline Posse is also tickled pink for the boys of Axis of Awesome in June. After sold out seasons in Edinburgh, Singapore, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, the award – winning Axis of Awesome are doing a DVD of their comedy songs and musical jokes! They’ve had over 8-million hits on You-tube and just been announced 2010 Time Out Sydney Comedy Award Winners for Best Local Act. If you’re in Sydney on Tuesday 8th June head along to the Metro Theatre. Make an effort in dressing… your image might be etched forever onto digital disc! Also a BIG congrats to Russell Peters on his recent stadium tour of Australia. Playing to packed audiences in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, he ended the Green Card Tour in Sydney’s Acer Arena… to the biggest ever audience for an Australian comedy show – 13,880 people.
