Find the Funny in February Scientists have found laughing intensely for an hour can burn as many calories as lifting weights for 30min, which is even more reason to sit down to some stand-up comedy this year on DVD. Last year Punchline brought you the biggest stars of comedy and 2010 is looking like a cracker of a year already. To start off the Funny Season we have some American heavy-weights for your February fix, with Margaret Cho, Pablo Francisco and Gabriel Iglesias. Margaret Cho has done it all. At forty years of age she’s an actress, fashion designer, author, gay icon, and recording artist. Her mixed sense of style can be seen in her media endeavors, from Channel 9’s Drop Dead Diva to being Chief of the 2008 Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. Beautiful is Cho’s latest offering, exploring the good, bad, and downright ugly in beauty, and the unattractive politicians and marketers who shape our world. Also out this month is the acclaimed I’m The One That I Want, her raunchy and hysterically funny concert which was named Entertainment Weekly’s “Great Performances of the Year”. Pablo Francisco’s unmatched take on all things pop culture has taken him into the ranks of the most popular touring comedians worldwide. Returning to our Australian shores this year for Sydney and Melbourne’s Comedy Festivals, catch-up with Pablo’s brand of humour as he weaves together his arsenal of characters, spontaneous outbursts, and clever insights in Bits and Pieces, complete with bonus CD. Gabriel Iglesias will best be remembered as the fat guy in the last ever episode of Seinfeld, but his comedy chops are just as illustrious. His high-octane show is a hilarious mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects that bring all his personal issues to life. Gabe’s clean, animated comedy style has earned crossover appeal. Ask anyone who has seen him in concert and you will probably hear the same thing, "He was so funny!" Filmed at El Paso, his comedy special Hot and Fluffy is not to be missed. February also marks the start of the Australian Comedy Season, with the Brisbane Comedy Festival and Adelaide Fringe with line-ups which should not be missed, including Punchline Label favourites Akmal, Arj Barker, Jimeoin and Puppetry of the Penis.
